Update: Unemployment Benefits extension likely to pass

Earlier I mentioned I wasn’t sure if the unemployment benefit extension would pass - it looks like it will pass tomorrow. The WSJ reports Senate Set to Extend Jobless Benefits On Tuesday, Democrats are likely to get the 60 votes they need to extend the benefits through November.

Existing Home Sales Decline in February

The NAR reports: February Existing-Home Sales Ease with Mixed Conditions Around the Country Existing-home, which are finalized transactions that include single-family, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, slipped 0.6 percent nationally to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.02 million units in February from 5.05 million in January, but are 7.0 percent higher than the 4.69 million-unit pace in February 2009. … Total housing inventory at the end of February rose 9.5 percent to 3.59 million existing homes available for sale, which represents an 8.6-month supply at the current sales pace, up from a 7.8-month supply in January.

Trade Deficit increases to $40.2 Billion in December

The Census Bureau reports : [T]otal December exports of $142.7 billion and imports of $182.9 billion resulted in a goods and services deficit of $40.2 billion, up from $36.4 billion in November, revised. December exports were $4.6 billion more than November exports of $138.1 billion. December imports were $8.4 billion more than November imports of $174.5 billion.

Existing Home Sales decline Sharply in December
