Jobless Claims, More and More Pain

Weekly jobless claims are getting worse and worse.  At this rate we’ll be above 500,000 per week again very soon.  The weekly jobless claims reported by the Labor Department rose by an adjusted 2,000 to 484,000.  The prior week was revised higher to 482,000 versus the initial 479,000 reported.  Bloomberg had consensus estimates of 460,000 [[ This is a content summary only. 97,000 Homeowners in "Loan Mod Limbo"

Paul Kiel at ProPublica reports: Chase and Other Servicers Leave Many in Loan Mod Limbo; Treasury Threatens Penalties About 97,000 homeowners in the government’s mortgage modification program have been stuck in a trial period for over six months. Most of them, about 60,000, have their mortgages with a single mortgage servicer, JPMorgan Chase. Trial periods are designed to last only three months, after which mortgage servicers are supposed to either give homeowners a permanent modification or drop them from the program

DOE Inventories Confirms EIA Trends (USO, OIL)

The weekly DOE inventories confirmed the EIA data last night, and the data is about just as bullish for oil and energy prices.  The United States Oil (NYSE: USO) ETF and iPath S&P GSCI Crude Oil Total Return Index ETN (NYSE: OIL) are both responding positively in the initial reaction.
